{Friday Musings} Step Away From the GBOT!

There’s an obsession that pops up every holiday season amongst the health conscious.

The obsession with “getting back on track” or GBOT, as I like to call it.

  • Getting back on track after Thanksgiving Feasts.
  • Getting back on track after holiday parties.
  • Christmas.
  • Hanukkah.
  • Kwanza.

You get the picture.

I bet if you Googled “getting back on track after the holidays” you’d crash your computer.

No one is immune to the GBOT thoughts.

Not even me.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with turkey, PaleOMG stuffing (which is REDONK, BTW) and lots of quality family time….and hard cider.

As I expected, Thanksgiving Thursday turned into Thanksgiving Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I didn’t go too crazy, but I definitely didn’t follow my usual eating pattern.

On Monday, also as expected, there was some mental backlash:

  • The desire to fast all day.
  • The desire to start a Paleo Zone diet.
  • The desire to GBOT ASAP.

I was sitting in the living room, hovered over my notebook, frantically scribbling Zone Block calculations with my pink pen when M asked me what I was doing.

I tore myself away from my little book and my 13 blocks.

“I don’t know,” I answered.

I didn’t know.

I mean, I knew– I was calculating how many grams of protein would be in my 3 block lunch.

So that I could GBOT.

But I didn’t know why.

I realized I wasn’t walking my talk.

That I had been sucked into the GBOT mentality.

The quick fix diet mentality.

No one is immune to the allure of the GBOT.

Once I realized what I was doing, I shook myself back to reality.

My “diets don’t work, slow lasting changes”  reality.

I never should have left her in the first place. I just needed someone else to pull me away from the GBOT.

So. I’m here to pull you back from the GBOT.

Step away from the GBOT!

Instead of “making up for” your few days of unusual eating, just start doing what you were doing. Choosing foods with love. Eating whole, real foods that support your health body and mind.

You don’t need a diet.

You don’t need the Zone.

You don’t need a juice cleanse.

You don’t need to IF.

You just need to let go of the GBOT and start doing what you were doing. Confidently doing what you were doing.

Well, to that I answer: “The Nutritional Reset is the first step in a lifestyle change, as opposed to a method to GBOT.”

It’s a method for a new beginning. To establish a new usual pattern.

It’s not about GBOT. It’s about starting a new track.

A fresh, loving, nurturing track.
