Are you following a stranger’s plan for your body?

Following a diet* is like letting a stranger tell you what to eat.

A stranger who doesn’t know you.

Who doesn’t know the first thing about you

Who has no idea what is best for you.

Only you know what truly works for you.

Even if it doesn’t seem like it right now.

Stranger's plan In the end, it will be YOU and not some stranger who figures out what way of eating is best.

It takes time and experimentation and lots of patience.

Don’t let a stranger tell you what to do.

Keep listening to your body and it will show you the way.

A whole food cleanse is a great first step toward figuring out what foods truly work for you.

* When I say “diet” I mean a plan you’d read in a book, or something you’d hear about on Dr. Oz–a fad diet.

What a great sentiment! I forget this all the time.
For example, this week I was listening to a podcast about emotional eating vs eating for fuel. I always eat a big breakfast at the start of the day to load up for a busy morning and keep me full til lunch. I thought I’d dabble with eating only when I got actually hungry. But I felt weak and mentally foggy all morning. When I eventually ate, I got hungry again within 2 hours! It doesn’t work for me. Someone else’s diet doesn’t work for me.
This comment is a bit long, maybe I should blog about this on my own blog! 🙂 Thanks.

Thanks, Healthy Serves One! It’s so easy to forget to listen to your body and fall into someone elses pattern… Even as a nutrition coach I’m constantly drawn to “plans” drawn up by other people. I’m always reminding myself to stay true and listen to my own body. Your blog post is great!
