Don’t Be a Paleo Cop.

I don’t like to argue.

I avoid confrontation at all costs.

Especially when someone is trying to argue about the best way to eat or how to eat.

In our real food community, we have Paleo Police. They’re everywhere: in every gym, in every comment section of every blog, on every form of social media telling non-paleo people they should go paleo, and judging those who follow paleo for how they choose to follow it.

The espousing of Paleo Police is one thing that really gets under my skin.

It’s okay to be passionate about your lifestyle, but you have to understand that what’s right for you may not be right for everyone.

Actually, it’s probably not.

Trying to push your way as the best way gets super old really quick.

The more you push, the more the subject of your pushing will resist. When it comes to eating or any lifestyle change), people have to come around on their own time.  If they’re forced into it, they’re less likely to stick with it.

Empower them to make their own decisions. Don’t push them into your decisions.

Paleo Police are typically judgmental of anyone who doesn’t follow a super strict Paleo diet all day every day.

Judging someone for how they choose to follow “paleo” is just as bad.

As a health counselor who specializes in Paleo, I often talk with people who are afraid to tell me that they ate ice cream or regular pizza, because they think I’ll judge them.

SO not the case.

Eating ice cream and pizza isn’t necessarily bad. The feeling bad about eating ice cream and pizza is definitely bad.

If you come to me saying the you ate ice cream and pizza, it’s not going to change anything unless you tell me you feel bad about eating the ice cream and pizza. Then I’ll probably ask you some questions, because to me, feeling bad about something you ate is an indication that a part of your diet isn’t working. Then we’ll work together to figure it out. And you won’t feel bad about eating pizza and ice cream anymore. Or you won’t feel the need to eat them because you’ll be totally satisfied with other foods that make you feel healthy.

You’re not a bad person if you follow a paleo diet and eat ice cream or pizza every once in a while. No one should think less of you and if they do, then they’re not worth your time.


It’s your life. You can choose to eat whatever you want to eat.

Just make sure that you’re making a conscious choice– if you’re making a conscious choice, you can never really make a bad decision.
